Greg Mercer is a New Brunswick-born, Guelph-based writer, columnist and national award-winning journalist. He’ s a reporter for the Waterloo Region Record, and formerly the Guelph Mercury, New Brunswick Telegraph-Journal and Vancouver Sun. His articles have appeared in the Toronto Star, National Post, Ottawa Citizen, Edmonton Journal and various Canadian magazines including Owl Kids.

He’s covered the London 2012 Summer Olympics, the 2010 earthquake in Haiti and written travel pieces from Laos, Costa Rica, Texas and beyond. As a reporter, he’s written on everything from quantum physics to Port au Prince’s desperate tent cities.

Greg writes about baseball for Sportsnet.ca and the Canadian Baseball Network, loves to kayak and covers the Intercounty Baseball League for the Record. He also writes the backpage column for Guelph Life magazine.

In 2014, he hosted the Talk Local news program on Rogers TV, and regularly speaks on journalism to students and other groups.

    I enjoyed reading your tongue-in-cheek article on AGO regulations. I know that I’d be happier if the government, at all 3 levels, spent less time protecting from myself.
